Whether it is your first time skiing, or you need to freshen up your skills a little after not skiing for a while, taking some ski lessons is always a good idea! Lessons can be booked through us and we're always here to help find the perfect lesson for you! There are a few things you should think about and know before starting your search:
Who can take ski lessons?
Anyone! From standing on skis for the very first time to being a seasoned skier, anyone and everyone can still learn and improve. It's super important to find the right kind of lessons and instructor for your abilities and needs, so it's a good idea to have a think about what you're looking for.
When, where, and how does it work?
Most people would probably recommend only taking lessons for a couple of hours in the morning or afternoon so you have some time to implement the techniques you've learned and practice. Skiing can be really exhausting, especially if you're doing it for the first time, so it might be a good idea to rest as well. Trust us, your thighs will thank you! It is, however, up to you - and there are options available if you want full-day lessons.
Do you want private or group lessons?
Private lessons usually mean either having one-on-one lessons to yourself or one instructor for your whole party. This works really well for families who are all learning together or smaller groups of friends, as long as you're all at a similar level. Private lessons are more flexible as you can choose how many lessons you'd like and when they should start. You are the main focus of the lessons so you will make good progress and learn quickly!
Group lessons usually consist of about 10-15 people at a similar level of skiing as you are. These lessons are really great for kids when they first learn because they can learn from and socialise with other children their age. It's a great place to drop your children off for a few hours if you want to get some adult-ski-time in on your holiday!
Private Lessons
Your private instructor will likely meet you in a different spot from the group lessons as it can get really busy at peak times. Private lessons are a bit more flexible, as they are not fixed to specific times. You could have a full day of lessons on your first ski day to freshen up and then no more for the rest of your holiday, or you could have a couple of hours in the morning every day.
Group Lessons
Group lessons run on a set timetable. They generally start on Sunday or Monday and run for the whole week. You won't be able to start halfway through, so if you're going away for a short break, this might not be the best option for you. Most resorts have a Ski School Meeting Point where everyone meets up with the instructor before their lessons. This is usually a very easy-to-reach and convenient location like the top or the bottom of the main gondola, or where the beginner area and kids' park are.
What about snowboarding?
There are certainly also snowboard lessons available! Snowboard lessons work the same as ski lessons in regards to the differences between group/private lessons. Please be aware that merging lessons between skiers and snowboarders is not possible.
How to Book
Both group and private lessons can be booked on the extras page at the time of booking or through the MyBooking portal (up to 10 days before your departure date), please note this is not possible for all resorts so please get in touch if you can't book through the portal.
