When going skiing abroad, it's usually easier to rent your ski gear than having to bring a heavy ski bag along with you, though if you’d rather take your own gear, you can do so by adding a ski-bag to your flights post-booking. Please see our guide to adding extra bags here.

Most ski hire shops categorise their equipment by ability level:

Beginner

These are best suited to a first or second time skier or snowboarder who may still have some acclimatising to do on the slopes. Beginner skis are generally more flexible which makes it easier to turn even when going slowly.

Intermediate

This type of ski (or snowboard) is great for more confident skiers who enjoy blue and red runs but don't like to go too fast just yet. The equipment at this level is a little harder and sturdier than the beginner gear, and requires more pressure and speed to turn.

Advanced

These are for fast and confident skiers/snowboarders whose favourite pistes are reds and blacks! They are quite hard and not flexible at all - and are therefore more stable, and won't vibrate at high speeds. The sturdiness also helps with tight precise turns.

Economy

These packages are for people who are travelling on more of budget, and are suited to any range of ability. The skis and snowboards given to you will be older models that are going to be more worn out and might have some scratches on them. The shop staff will ask you your ability when you arrive in the shop and adjust the bindings based on this. If you're planning on going down some steep blacks, these will still offer you enough security to send it as fast as you like. If you are a complete beginner you may find that beginner skis are better suited to you as they will be more flexible, making it easier to turn.

In general, most ski hire comes with skis, boots and poles. However, if you already have your own boots and want to take them along, you can easily just book skis (and poles). The same is true for snowboard hire.

Helmets can also be hired, either in advance with the rest of your equipment, or in resort when you pick it up. Helmets are arguably the most important piece of equipment on the slopes. Even the most professional skiers are not immune to accidents - it’s important to remember that you are partaking in an extreme sport, and you must take the necessary precautions.

You can pre-book your ski hire on your MyBooking page. You will be able to book your ski equipment up to 5 days before your departure date.
